Paranormal Romance

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Quick Summary

In The Uncrowned King, we reunite with Cora and Derick. Cora is a hellhound, a species hunted by dragons for centuries. Since Derick is a dragon, this makes him her mortal enemy.

Derick is hot and dangerous and he and Cora are drawn to each other like a fly to flame. In her mortal enemy, Cora has found everything. She would give up all for him.

Then Derick is snatched away, and Cora finds some unexpected allies in her fight to find and reclaim him from the one who threatens the world and all she holds dear.

First Impressions

My first impression of this book came from reading The Bastard King, book one of the Bastard Duology. I enjoyed it thoroughly, so I decided to get The Uncrowned King, book two, to continue the story.

I was not disappointed. The story immediately picked up where The Bastard King left off.

With a bang the first chapter unfolded and I was again absorbed in the story and I could not put it down.

What I Loved About The Uncrowned King

I enjoyed the strength displayed by Derick and Cora, our protagonists. Cora shows such strength of character, value for the truth, and a need to protect those who are good and innocent.

Derick also displayed terrific mental strength. In spite of being stripped of everything he knows, his heart holds true.

I love Donna Grant’s amazing world-building. This story also stands out in its uniqueness. I am an avid reader, yet this is the first time I have encountered many of the magical beings described in this story.

What Could Have Been Better

I wouldn’t change one word. It was my first time reading a paranormal romance featuring this combination of magical beings, and it was terrific.

I actually found that their unique magical strengths added many unexpected twists and turns to this story.

Favorite Character

I generally liked our protagonists Cora and Derick in this book. However it was really hard to choose. the characters were so well written that I fell in love with many of them, even those who played minor roles.

As in book one, Derick and Cora shine because they are pure in spirit and protect the innocents. More than that, they appear incorruptible, and even in the most pressing moments when darkness could have taken over them, they find themselves back to their true nature.

I also enjoy the unity of the dragons. The level of unity displayed by them is often absent even among blood relatives.

Who Should Read This

If you love suspenseful paranormal romance novels with an intense Male and female lead or a family that is overly protective and shows up for their own, The Uncrowned King is the book for you.

Final Thoughts

I highly recommend The Uncrowned King. It is suspenseful, fast-paced, and packed full of magical beings, romance, and danger—all of which make it irresistible.
