First Impressions

It didn’t quite hook me from the start. It felt a bit slow, and the initial world-building dragged on. However, as the plot thickened and more mystery and betrayal were introduced, the pace picked up, and I found myself being unable to put it down.

What I Loved

I loved all the characters; they were all great, but there was only one that really stood out to me: Widget. His relationship with Amelie was something to pay attention to. He said nothing but everything at the same time, like her quiet sanctuary.

I must admit this isn’t my normal read, but this book….the writing, the plot, the characters, all of it, was so wonderfully crafted it made me want to read more books like it.

What Could Have Been Better

Although the book was overall amazing, the pacing could’ve been better. The start really didn’t capture my attention, which made it a bit difficult to get lost in the story earlier on, but it picked up as time passed. So, in spite of what I would call a slow start, it was still an amazing read.

Favorite Character

As I said previously, my favorite character is Widget. I love the part he played in Amelie’s life.

This singular sentence highlights how our decisions shape who we are, even in difficult situations.

Who Should Read This

This book is a perfect read for anyone who likes dystopian fiction, particularly those who enjoy The Hunger Games or works by Veronica Roth.
