Quick Summary

The Fashion Show Fiasco is a book featuring Mattie Madison, a child detective who has solved many difficult cases.

Mattie inadvertently stumbles on a mystery at her school’s fashion show when a very expensive and much sought-after piece of jewelry turns up missing. But Mattie and her friend Molly are on the case.

First Impression

The idea of a child detective first caught my attention, and I immediately got an early reader’s copy of this book.

By the end of the first chapter, I knew I would not be disappointed. It begins with an interesting but what should have been a normal day at the fashion show. However, the stage for a very interesting story was set by the end of the first chapter, and I was invested.

What I Loved

I loved that the protagonist is a child who has the ability to look at the evidence and figure out who the likely suspects are. The fact that she is following a thought process that is overlooked by the police makes her even that more special.

Mattie has questions, and in spite of the opposition she faces from the police, she pushes forward.

What Could Have Been Better

Considering that this book has been written for 2nd to 5th graders I think it was perfect. I believe young readers will find a hero in Mattie Madison.

Favorite Characters

Mattie Madison of course. Her unusual role and the way she is able to analyze the available like someone beyond her age makes her stand out.

Who should read this

Elementary students should read The Fashion Show Fiasco. It is intriguing and has a great storyline, just suited to their age group.

Final Thoughts

As a child, I loved reading detective novels written specifically for kids. As a parent, I find such books sadly lacking for young readers.

I recommend this book for young readers everywhere.
