Quick Summary
To catch a serial killer before he kills again was the problem faced by FBI agents and consultants in Absent Feelings.
Amber Young, a genius at puzzles, may be the only one capable of figuring out the clues he left so as to find him in time.
First Impressions
The action is a trifle slow. Also, the story is not really believable since there is nothing impressive about the killer to make you believe he is smart enough to elude police detection as long as he has.
What I Loved About This Book
The FBI consultant’s approach to the problem was compelling. Her persistence in the face of her superior’s disapproval displayed bravery not often found in someone so young and new.
The way the FBI agent tested the mettle of the consultant, who he wants as his new sidekick, was admirable. He seemed to disapprove of her persistence, but he did not shut her down.
The most entreating aspect of the story was that the author weaved threads of sympathy for the suspects. As the story ends and the killer is caught, one is left with the question of how innocent the seemingly innocent characters in the story are.
Did they contribute to turning their patient into a killer?
What Could Have Been Better
In this story, the main character should have been more impressive. Some of the characters he had a vendetta against should have been more visible, especially the main one.
Who Should Read This Book?
