Quick Summary

In The Student, Francesca barely survived the tragedy that marked her life’s most memorable and painful moment. Finally putting the pieces of her life back together, she moves to a new town as a university student who struggles to make ends meet.

To survive, she takes on a writing job that promises to be the answer to her prayers, except she knows nothing about her client.

As she begins work, the client’s eccentricities and the client’s requirements make her uncomfortable and arouse her suspicion.

Then, many mysterious incidents occur, causing Francesca to fear for her own survival and that of the people closest to her.

First Impression

I love psychological thrillers, and Francesca Crawford’s back story caught my attention early.

The description promised some interesting twists, and the way the first three chapters unfolded with an odd interview and hints of Francesca’s painful past reinforced this idea.

What I Loved

I love that this book was unpredictable to the very end. The twists, turns, and surprises make it a worthwhile read.

What Could Have Been Better

The pace could have been better. There was a point during the first half of this book when the storyline just wasn’t picking up enough for me. However, the second half of the book was so much better.

Unfortunately, it just never delivered that punch I was expecting.

Favorite Character

Gloria was by far my favorite character, regardless of her minor role. This made the revelations about her sad for me.

Who Should Read This

If you love slow-burn, suspenseful stories with unpredictable plot twists, you will enjoy The Student. If you find it a tad slow don’t lose hope it delivers in the end.

Final Thoughts

I have mixed feelings about this book. While I found some parts disappointing, I believe it is worth picking up,
