Quick Summary
In The Descendant, the human race is at risk. Among them is a young, unassuming lady who is the key to their salvation.
Ava is different. She has great powers, and as the Xemlix nation plots to enslave Earth, it is Ava who holds the key to the freedom of the human race.
During the wedding planning stages, Ava starts doubting whether she is doing the right thing. Soon, she has a night visitor, Meldrick Richlow.
First Impressions
I was captivated from the first chapter. The plot was outlined in the first few paragraphs, and it promised an interesting read.
Soon, I met our heroine, and her personality and backstory laid the groundwork for a captivating tale. I was engaged!
What I Loved
The struggle between good and evil is one that always makes a good story, and this one was no different. The fact that this protagonist is unaware of how special she is and the dangers lurking made this an interesting read.
What Could Have Been Better
While it is an enjoyable story, it lacks depth. I think the story could have been better with more development to both the back story and the characters. Some areas seemed to abruptly change because the proper groundwork was not laid. I think with more work and development of some key elements, this story could have been so much better.
Favorite Character
I cannot think of one. When I think of the characters in this story, I am simply disappointed. None stood out for me. I feel like there just wasn’t enough time and effort put invested in developing them.
Memorable Quote
“First of all, make sure you feel good in your own shoes because the most important relationship you’re ever going to have is your relationship with yourself.”
I like this quote because it speaks to all of us. Often, we are pressured by the people we consider important in our lives: family, friends, work colleagues, etc. However, when we make choices that we are not comfortable with, we let ourselves down. We have to live with regrets and self-recriminations.
Who should read this
I think teenagers and young adults who like fantasy may enjoy this book.
