Synopsis

Mortals have been taken to work in the armies of the Gods as the war between the old gods and the New forges on.

Petra had been taken to work for the new Gods. It was a lonely life with little hope of ever seeing her home again.

Petra has a deadly secret that she must keep if she is to survive in this harsh land. Then one night a soldier died on her table and she performed a spontaneous resurrection. Now one more person knows her secret and Petra’s spontaneous action sets a prophecy in motion even while it puts her life in danger from the very Gods she serves.

In the Monster Mash, Angie Fox did a great job of creating a modern-day fantasy romance, weaving a few noted events in recent history with the acts of the Gods and their effects on human beings.

The story is an intricate tale of bravery, duty, love, faith, consequences, and natural order.

The Monster Mash caught my attention from the first line and held it with many unexpected surprises and a bit of mystery. I wouldn’t class it as a page-turner but it has a definite appeal.

What I Liked

I liked the idea of a fantasy story that takes place in the world of the Gods but where mortals are taken to dwell in that world for a time. That stood out as different from other stories that I had ever read.

Additionally, the link between known events on the earth shown as consequences of the actions of the Gods at war while humankind go about their lives in ignorance lends authenticity to the story.

The fact that this story is written about immortals whose emotions and shortcomings marks them as very human in nature and therefore quite relateable added to my enjoyment.

What I Didn’t Like

While this is a really fun enjoyable story I felt that the last prediction was not adequately dealt with.

Point to Note

I received a free ARC copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a review.

Stamp of Approval

I enjoyed this book greatly and would definitely recommend it to those who are on the lookout for a great romantic fantasy chock full of surprises. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
