Title: Holding Back

Author: joymoment

Genre: Teen fiction

Please Note

As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Synopsis:

This story is mainly about two teenagers Jace and Haley who are in high school. Haley is an introvert who lives a pretty boring life. Her best friend moved away and now she is always alone. She hasn’t mastered the socialization process and really doesn’t think it’s worth the bother if everyone is going to leave.

In private Hailey’s life is falling apart even as she wears a wall as her public mask. Jace on the other hand is Mr. Popular, making friends left and right.

It’s strange to know that those two are neighbors. Haley considers Jace a playboy and resents him for it.

The characters:

I’ve learnt that Haley may be quiet and antisocial but inside she really just wants to belong.

Isaac likes Hailey however while he appears to fit in better he is unsure of himself.

Jace is actually very kind he may appear to be a player but he’s just waiting for that one girl.

Plot:

The plot mainly outlines the struggles of teenagers. Each one is different but share many of the same issues.

It also addresses the idea that there is always something more going on than what we see on the surface.

What I like :

I like how the book is so detailed and the way it brings the complexities of teenage life to the forefront and openly addresses everyday issues.

I also like the author’s writing style.

What I Didn’t Like:

I can’t say I dislike anything about the story. It’s great.

Recommendations:

There are a few grammatical errors in this book. I would recommend either the author makes another run through or hire an editor.

Stamp of approval:

As a teenager, I found the characters and their struggles quite relatable.

I would definitely buy this.

    Hi Candy

I always find it interesting to read someone’s else view of a book before actually purchasing it, as it can give to you a point of view that you have never thought of in the first place . Reading your summary it makes it sound that it will be an interesting  read  and you wonder want will happen to the story protagonist, will there be a happy ending or not? I  always enjoy a good read as long as it is not too long and it is a page Turner. Spelling mistakes can be off putting but then we live in an imperfect world.

    Thanks

    Antonio

      Hi Antonio,

Thank you for stopping by and for your comments.

I agree spelling mistakes can be a problem in this case it was grammatical errors but not enough to put a reader off this thought-provoking, inciteful story.

      Cheers,

Awesome and well articulated review. The best part was when the characters where discussed at learnt. It was really exciting to even think about the way the story was fashioned out. I think i would want to have my own piece of the action by seeing the movie myself and enjoying every thrill that it brings. Thanks once again

Hey Candy- great review! You have a lot of great stuff on your site and I liked that you let us know right off the bat that you were an Amazon Associate- something I think I need to do more. The early full disclosure. I liked that your summary and review wasn’t too long and made sense. I actually wish I’d see more of the kind of writing that you did on this site. Good stuff ahead!

Hello there! This is an amazing review you have got here on this book. I like the sound of this book. It should make an interesting read. From books and a lifetime of sitting on the sidelines, Haley is convinced she knows how the world works, specifically high school. Everyone has a label and a box they fit in.

Hello Candy, I really do love this story and one thing that I like about characterization in novels is playing two characters with different lifestyle and seeing how fate brings them together on the long run. So many writers fail to see eha could trigger the reader and that is not the case here. I really like the character of Haley.

      Hi Justin,

I have to agree Joy Moment is a genius. The book has much more dept than the typical teen fiction too.

      Cheers,
