Synopsis

Helena Truit, Hel has never had much warmth in her life.

Rejected from birth by her parents she has only had the love of her grandmother, while her parents simply tolerated her presence. Things changed however when her baby brother, the light of their lives, died in her care. Her parents ignored Helen and resorted to drugs to deal with their pain.

When at the age of seven the resourceful Helen began to do chores for money to try to acquire school supplies her parents found out and began to use her to support their habit.

This cycle continued into adulthood with Hel always believing that she needed to take care of her parents while they continued to rack up enormous debts, uncaring about the fact that Hel was giving up everything to take care of them.

I started reading this book and just couldn’t put it down.

This book contains very graphic, painful adult content that made it very difficult to read at some point. The pain and suffering of the leading characters was difficult to withstand yet their emotional strength branded them early as forces to be reckoned with.

In Hel to Pay Emily Stormbrook created a winner that had me feeling the pains and triumph of our protagonists. It was an emotional roller coaster ride that had me reading it from cover to cover in one sitting.

What I Liked

I completely enjoyed the emotional fortitude and resourcefulness of the leading characters.

The antagonist was a more than worthy, wile character that could not have been bested by lesser opponents.

While this book delivered an emotional punch at the beginning it also delivered a satisfying resolution with just enough loose ends to leave us in anticipation of the next book in the series.

What I Didn’t Like

I loved all of it and wouldn’t change one word.

Point to Note

I received a free ARC copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Stamp of Approval

Hel to Pay by Emily Stormbrook has definitely made my list of The Most Interesting Book to Read. I highly recommend it for those who love an action-packed romance novel. I look forward to reading the rest of the Elswyth Chase Pack adventures.
